Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 August 2026
The short version
LinuxSetup has no user accounts, no database, and no server that receives your choices. The distribution and packages you select stay in your browser, and the installation script is generated locally on your own device. We do not collect, store, or sell personal information.
The one exception is advertising: this site shows ads through Google AdSense, and Google sets its own cookies. That is described below.
What stays in your browser
- Your selections. The distribution, packages, and options you pick are held in memory while the page is open. They are not transmitted to us.
- Theme preference. If you switch between light and dark mode, that preference is saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers it. It never leaves your device.
- Share links. When you use the share button, your selected packages are encoded into a URL that your browser creates. We do not receive or record that link — you choose whether to share it and with whom.
What we do not collect
We do not run analytics, tracking pixels, fingerprinting, or session recording. We do not ask for your name, email address, or payment details, and there is nothing to sign up for. We do not build advertising profiles about you ourselves.
Advertising and cookies
This site is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. To do this, Google and its partners may set and read cookies or similar identifiers on your device in order to serve and measure ads.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info.
- More detail is available in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you will be asked for consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time.
Software you install
The scripts generated here download software from each vendor's own official repositories — for example Microsoft, Google, Docker, or your distribution's maintainers. When your machine contacts those servers, it does so directly, and their own privacy policies apply. LinuxSetup is not involved in and cannot see those requests.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to export, correct, or delete. To remove the preferences stored locally by this site, clear your browser's site data for this domain. For data held by Google in connection with advertising, use the Google links above.
Children
LinuxSetup is a developer tool and is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
